Tucked away just off Northlake Blvd. is the North County Senior Center, one of three such centers located in Palm Beach County. Part of the Community Services Department Division of Senior Services, the Center offers transportation through Palm Tran, a hot meal program, and countless activities for our senior citizens. There are a variety of classes, programs, and activities that promote healthy and independent living for older adults. In addition, seniors are welcome to drop in for coffee, cards, and conversation.

In order to become an active member, you must first apply for membership, which requires a personal visit to the Center. There are, in all, three applications: (1) for membership to the Center itself, which is free; (2) for meals; the Congregate Meal Site Program provides nutritionally balanced meals (breakfast and lunch), for adults aged 60 and older and their spouses and/or caregivers, and encourages socialization. Meal services are provided at no cost. Voluntary contributions are accepted; and (3) for transportation, which is free for those who have joined the meal program. Otherwise, Palm Tran is $7.00 round trip to and from the Center. The application process takes about a week, at which point you may visit the center and enjoy its activities as often as you like. The Center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with lunch served daily. A Palm Tran bus leaves the Center every day at 2 p.m. for Century Village.

A published newsletter provides complete information on social events, dance classes, computer classes, exercises classes, trips, and more. The March newsletter (see front page at the end of photos) highlights the month’s events, including an Ice Cream Social, a Medicare Q&A, a Smartphone education program, a painting workshop, a jewelry class, a visit from the Bookmobile, and several health-related speakers. There are also special events at holidays, and a variety of field trips.

Here is the link to their webpage, and below that photos of some of the Center’s activities and participants.
